Hey, my name is Amber Hicks!
I am a Senior UX Designer at Norfolk Southern Corp., in Midtown Atlanta, Georgia. I'm an advocate for the user and always fight to ensure that experiences are user-centered and intuitive, while also meeting business objectives.
As a former elementary school teacher who has developed a passion for user-experience design, I've discovered teaching is SO MUCH like UX design! (I'd love to explain why! Contact me, since it's #TLDR.)
While achieving my UX Design Certification, I experienced moonlighting as a contract UX Designer for Homestar Financial Corporation iterating their borrower portal to improve the loan journey experience.
I also had the incredible opportunity to intern with GenomEdge, a rising startup company in Silicon Valley, as a UX Designer. Working with their design team, I established clear and effective user flows, iterated app screen designs according to HIG guidelines, and brainstormed the redesign of their company logo.
At Norfolk Southern, I've driven the organization's UX presence, built a Design System (from scratch!), and worked on countless internal and external facing user-centered products as the lone UX Designer. Most recently, I've begun to grow my team as the Senior UX Designer, while mentoring new UXers.
I am a constant and creative problem-solver; I consider myself a servant leader who loves to collaborate with others to achieve goals. I'm insanely organized and flexible in my workflow. I fight for the user, continuously striving to inspire empathy and the creation of meaningful applications and interactions.
